This tumbler showcases Shoyo Gama's beautifully refined teal glaze, developed through a patient process of trial and error.
The gentle thickness and soft matte texture bring a warm, earthy feel to the piece.
Each tumbler is carefully handcrafted in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan.

Origin

Tamba Ware

Tamba Ware is recognised as one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns, with origins dating back to the late Heian period (around 1185). Traditionally made for everyday use, Tamba pottery is known for its practical forms and earthy character. Many kilns continue the full handmade process - from preparing the clay to firing in anagama or noborigama wood-fired kilns. During firing, pine ash naturally settles and melts into the surface, creating the signature natural ash glaze (haiyū) that gives each piece its unique and expressive appearance.

Today, the second and third generation owners, together with their families, continue to share the charm and character of Tamba ware. While rooted in the region’s historic craft, they create forms that feel at home in modern life, adding their own sensibilities to the tradition.

Located high on a hillside, Shoyo Gama overlooks the Tamba mountains, an ever changing landscape that inspires their work and approach to Shoyo Gama

$15 standard flat rate and orders over $250 will receive free shipping Australia wide. Express post is available via Auspost and rates are calculated at checkout.
Free pick up is also available from our Milton (2538) shop in NSW.

All of our products are handcrafted/hand finished. Therefore there may be variations in colour, texture, shape and some imperfections. We truly believe these add character to each piece and what make them unique.

In the situation where the item you receive is faulty, you will be entitled to a refund or exchange. Please allow up to 5 business days for the refund to be processed.
