What is Tenugui?

A tenugui is a traditional Japanese hand towel made of cotton that has been beloved in Japanese households for centuries. Its history dates back to the Nara period (710-784 AD), and it has evolved and remained a staple item in daily life ever since. As it is used, a tenugui becomes softer over time, making it increasingly comfortable to use. Tenugui is used for various purposes in Japanese culture, including wiping one's face or hands, or as a tool for cooking and cleaning. They are considered indispensable in Japanese daily life, cherished for both their practicality and aesthetic appeal, and continue to be treasured by many people today.

"Kasane no Irome" Motif

In late autumn, both the golden ginkgo tree and the roads carpeted with yellow leaves are beautiful. "Ichō chiru" captures this late autumn scene. The motif is the "Kumi Ichō" pattern, featuring consecutive ginkgo leaves.
