The Ground Vase is part of Shinzangama Yamatsu’s Crunch Series, where recycled ceramics and porcelain are intentionally crushed and blended to create a raw, textured surface with a fresh character. Its simple, functional form highlights the natural essence of the clay, bringing a quiet presence to any space.
Each vase is shaped using the ikomi (slip-casting) method, giving it a soft, organic expression. The rim is finished with only minimal polishing to enhance a natural look and feel, meaning subtle variations are part of its charm.
The white glaze carries flecks of colour from the finely ground recycled pieces, making every vase slightly different.
Recycled Clay
Around 20% of the Ground series is made with recycled clay, combining unused raw clay and broken ceramic pieces.
Ground is more than a name - it’s a concept. By embracing recycled clay, the series redefines the value of materials, connecting tradition with modern sensibilities and offering a piece that feels both grounded and contemporary.

YAMATSU - 150 Years of Craft
With a history spanning over 150 years, Shinzangama Yamatsu is based in Gifu, the birthplace of Mino ware and Japan’s leading centre of ceramic production. They are woven into a rich network of artisans and industries dedicated to keeping the spirit of Mino ware alive.

Harmony at the Table
Their ceramics are created to play a quiet supporting role in daily life. Each piece is designed not to outshine, but to let food, flowers, and everyday rituals take centre stage, while bringing a gentle sense of harmony.
Guided by this philosophy, Shinzangama Yamatsu continues to craft tableware that enriches homes in Japan and around the world, adding warmth and joy to the everyday.
